Alabaster carved Buddha head with colour pigments. The face is extremely nice, now rare to find original pieces like this one. A wonderful smile with downcast eyes and large stylised elongated ear lobes (tips of ears have been repaired with original piece). 17-18th century. Professionally mounted on a black display stand. Note: the patina is superb, the lower face remains smoother while the top of the head has a wonderful patina through centuries of exposure to the sun and elements - Be careful when purchasing similar pieces there is now an increasing number of copies on the market

FINE BURMESE BRONZE SHAN JAMBUPATI BUDDHA 17th -18TH Century

A fine Bronze sitting Buddha image in royal attire - Jambupati type. The Buddha sits in the lotus position, wearing a long-toothed flanged crown, the tip of the usnisa is missing, the crown is elaborately decorated. Under the royal jewellery the Buddha wears a monks robe, the features of the face with slanting eyes, high eyebrows and small mouth are typical of the Shan style. The lobes of the ears rest sideways on the upper arms decorated with massive ornaments.
The image has a superb dark rich patina, clay core remains intact and visible. Crack to front of base, see images.
This piece comes with a full documented Provenance.
Good condition, no restoration.

Shan Bronze Buddha

SHAN BRONZE BUDDHA 17-18th Century

A very fine bronze Burmese sitting Buddha image, with a fantastic deep brown/red and green patination & traces of gold leaf. The image has a beautiful face with down cast me dative expression and elongated ear lobes. This image is unusual in the fact that its solid cast bronze, with a shallow recessed base. 17-18th Century. For similar image please see Ancient Buddhist Art from Burma, Haskia Hasson 1993.
Excellent condition, no losses whatsoever.
