Wooden Buddha image from the 18th century Shan states, Burma. Superb rich deep brown glossy patina with some remains of gold leaf in certain areas particularly towards to back and reverse of the image, Sitting on a simple two tiered pedestal. Face is very pleasing with a short neck and smiling lips, down cast expression, the figure has an unusual circular relic chamber on the reverse of the base. Image is carved from hard wood probably teak, and remains solid and has no termite damage although does exhibit a nicely weathered underside. Excellent condition. Documented provenance.

Teak wood Buddha image from the 18th - 19th century Shan states, Burma. Superb rich patina with extensive gilding, The Buddha sits in the lotus position, wearing a long-toothed elaborate crown, the tip of the usnisa is missing. Under the royal jewellery the Buddha wears a monks robe, the features of the face with slanting eyes, high eyebrows and small mouth are typical of the Shan style. Sitting on a decorated two tiered pedestal. Image is carved from hard wood probably teak, and remains solid and has very slight termite damage to one area of the underside hardly worth noting, the very front of the lower pedestal is inset with glass or micra. Excellent condition, with a repair the very front lower section of the base - only visible from the underside. Documented provenance.
