A rare 2nd-3rd century Gandharan grey schist Head of the Buddha Sakyamuni from Afghanistan. The face is modelled with a meditive expression, arched eyebrows above heavy lidded eyes, gently smiling bow shaped lips, urna. Hair in fine waves terninating in a top knot. Nice piece in sort after Hellenistic Style.
The piece is in good condition nose damaged.

SCHIST HEAD OF A BODHISATTVA 2nd-3rd Century AD Code: 0680 - Price: POA
Fine schist Bodhisattva head dated to the 2nd or 3rd century AD. The head displays an elaborately carved turban featuring a prominant circular crest design to the front. The turban represents a head covering made of a textile and encrusted with gems. The Bodhisattvas oval shaped face is characterised by half shut dowcast eyes, bow shaped lips with a hint of a smile and central urna on the forhead. Good size at 15.5cm Gandhara 1st-3rd Century.

RARE SCHIST BUDDHA HEAD
2nd-3rd Century AD

A fine carved Grey Schist Buddha head, The rounded face in a contemplative mood with downcast eyes, his hair arranged in wavy curls and gathered in a domed topknot. Collected from what was formally North West India. Extremely rare. 2nd-3rd Century AD, Guaranteed. An unusual feature of this head is the deeply recessed circular urna in the centre of the forhead which originally would have held a semi precious stone.
For similar examples see The Gandhara Style, Madeleine Hallade, Thames & Hudson 1968. Page 79 pl.56/57. He has one carved hole at the top of his head, which would have originally been intended for the attachment of a decoration. Professionally mounted on a clear plexi glass stand with black metal rod.
Excellent condition, restoration to a crack within the stone down the side, stable.

A Rare Gandharan carved Schist stone Head of a Bodhisattva. From the Gandhara region of Afghanistan. The face is modelled with a meditive expression in the classicized Hellenistic fashion, heavy lidded eyes, gently smiling bow shaped lips, elongated earlobes. The hair is beautifully executed in a design so as to cascade down either side in waves and pulled back over the ears. The piece is of a good size at 4.25" not including the stand.

SCHIST WORSHIPPER OR WARRIOR HEAD

A nice schist stone head of a worshipper or warrior figure, with clear features. He is wearing a type of unusual felt hat, a moustache and a large earring. This piece would have at one time been part of a larger section of a Gandharan Schist relief from the base of a Stupa or other religious Buddhist structure as the back is flat. Professionally mounted on plexiglass stand.
Good condition with soil encrustation to the surface.

2nd-3rd century Gandharan grey schist Head of worshoper wearing a beaded head band, from Afghanistan. Would have formed part of a freeze with head looking toward the left side probably towards the Buddha or a Bodhisattva. Slight soil encrustation.

A rare 2nd-3rd century Gandharan grey schist Head of the Buddha Sakyamuni from Afghanistan. The face is modelled with a meditive expression, arched eyebrows above heavy lidded eyes, aquiline nose gently smiling bow shaped lips, urna, elongated earlobes. A hole in the top would have originally served as a holding place for further embellishment or jewels. Professionally mounted on a clear plexi glass stand with black metal rod.
The piece is in good condition ancient damage has resulted in damage to the end of the nose.
