LARGE MUSEUM QUALITY STUCCO FEMALE FIGURE
Circa 2nd-3rd Century AD. Rare Fonduquistan

A magnificent large museum quality 2nd-3rd century Gandharan Stucco bust of a female worshipper. Beautifully modeled in the classical Gandharan Greco style. Very high quality piece. From Afghanistan, probably the little studied site of the temple at Fonduquistan to the west of present day Karbul, close to the ill-fated Bamiyan. The Stuccos of Fonduquistan are in a style which may be loosely called Irano-Buddhist. Making this a very rare piece. Original coloured pigments remaining over the clothing. She wears a large madalion type neclace addorned with large circular discs, her hair cascades down both sided of the face, note her elongated earlobes. She holds a large object in both hands, probbably some form of temple offering.
The piece is in excellent condition signs of restoration to the neck area suggest it may hve been detached at some point in time, Absolutley Beautiful piece.

SITTING STUCCO BUDDHA HEAD AND TORSO

A beautiful quality 3-4rd century Gandharan Stucco Buddha seated in Dhyanasana with his hands resting in his lap in dhyana mudra. Wearing a finely pleated sanghati covering both shoulders, the modelling on the drapery is particularly nice. His face with peaceful expression, small bow-shaped mouth, heavy-lidded almond shaped eyes, the locks of hair are rendered by round depressions. Some remains of red/ocha coloured pigments throughout. From Afghanistan.
The piece is in excellent condition, probably some restoration to the neck.

VERY RARE LARGE STUCCO LION
GANDHARA 3rd-4th Century AD

A spectacular Museum quality large Stucco Lion. This is a fine example of a Gandharan 3-4th century architectural lion ornament. From the Gandharan region of NW India or Afghanistan, a very rare find for a stucco piece to be in this excellent condition. In the art of Gandhara a fearsome lion figure such as this one would have served as a guardian figure, complete with bulging eyes and protruding tongue. Some slight remains of coloured pigments still existing on the surface. Professionally mounted on a clear plexi glass stand with black metal rod. Very rare to find a stucco Lion of this quality and size.
Excellent condition, no restoration or repairs.
