Superbly articulated Stucco head of a Bodhisattva with original Semi precious stone garnet Urna. 27cm. This exquisitely modeled head of a Bodhisattva, with perfectly proportioned oval face. His features are highlighted with subtle touches of red pigment only slightly remaining. The urna on his forehead still inlaid with a gem - extremely rare.
The soft modeling of the features and the delicate details imbue this work with a restrained elegance. Compare the rendering of the full face with a large Buddha head in the Gai Collection, Peshawar; see Ingholt, 1957, no. 531. Also see Kurita, 2003, vol. II, nos. 906 & 907, p. 295, for other Bodhisattva heads of similar quality.

Professional mounted on custom made removable black metal welded stand.
The piece is in good condition considering age and size, with ancient damage to left cheek and right ear.
