NICE SAND STONE CORBEL
Angkor Wat period 12th Century
Code: 0687 - Price: POA

Rare museum quality 12th century sandstone corbel. This piece would have originally forme the top or a temple compound wall and features a seated Buddha in a niche. Measures 46cm tall x 44cm wide not including the bronze stand. The colouring of the stones patina is a mixture of wonderful mottled ochre hues with areas of orange and darker black and browns this mottled variegated surface colouring is one of the nicest we have seen. Authentic Khmer pieces from Cambodia frequently have this mottled variegated surface colouring. The colours actually leach from both the interior of this soft sandstone depending upon the soil composition and minerals contained within the surrounding area in which it was buried. It is a dry surface not altered in any way. The wear is consistent and even on the entire piece. The patina can not be under stated. There are no cracks or flaws in the stone. The stone is very thick and has not been cur down as is sometimes the case. Includes bronze stand.

Good condition.
