RARE TERRACOTTA FIGURE
1st-2nd Century AD

An interesting rare museum quality terracotta male figure. High quality piece. His hair is tied in an ascetic's chignon and across his torso is the sacred Brahman cord. The figure is very unusual although an ancient loss has resulted in damage to the left arm it was never designed to be a complete figure, the posture appears to be kneeling and the underside is modeled in such a way as to form a type of vessel stopper? The reverse is modeled with a large depression. The use and purpose of this figure is unidentified, we have attributed it to early Gandhara period 1st-2nd century, although it could be earlier. The surface of the terracotta has a woderful mottled deep patina, An extremely unusual and rare piece.
The piece is in excellent condition with no repairs or restoration, ancient loss has resulted in the loss of left arm.

RARE TERRACOTTA HEAD Pre-Gandharan

A magnificent large museum quality terracotta Head of female figure. Very high quality piece from the Punjab. The distinctive face is modelled with long European nose, cowrie shaped eyes with tight wavy hairdress in three rows pulled backwards and terminating into a top knot, traces of original coloured pigments remaining, beautiful deep patina, An extremely unusual and rare piece. Professionally mounted on a custom made welded black metal stand.
The piece is in excellent condition with no repairs or restoration, ancient loss has resulted in damage to lower left ear.

RARE SANDSTONE FIGURE
Circa 3rd-5th Century AD Code: 0528 - Price: POA
A rare sandstone figure of a man originally depicted riding a camel or elephant. He has a fine detailed face and wears a robe or tunic which covers his head and tossed over his left shoulder. In his right hand is a staff and on his left is an interesting decorated shield, part of a saddel and decorated camel hump remains, Red pigment remains on the surface. An extremely unusual and rare piece from the Silk Road, Afghanistan. European figures were not unusual in this part of central Asia along the trading routes that crisscrossed Afghanistan, In the art of Kizil many European figures were depicted, with their light complexions, blue eyes and blond or reddish hair, costumes of Knights and there ladies at Kizil have haunting suggestions of the chivalric age in the west.

RARE INDIAN JAIN SANDSTONE HEAD
12th Century Code: 0519 - SOLD
A fine carved Jain sandstone head dating to the 12th century, would have originally formed part of a carved temple relief decorating a Jain temple complex in Northern India. The hair is carved into small curls terminating in a topknot, wearing earrings with Nimbus ring behind, the face is rounded with nice patina. From Rajasthan or Gujarat.
The piece is in good condition with no repairs or restoration.
