Chinese Ching Dynasty alter figure dating from the 18th or 19th century. A finely Carved wooden figure with a paper, thin plaster covering, and coloured pigments, Nice colours and beautiful patina. He has a relic chamber in the back which contains a paper/cloth sheet with written Chinese characters, probably an offering to the gods or ancestors together with some cotton threads, seeds and a dried sea horse!, A symbol of fertility.
Good condition, no restoration.

Chinese Ching Dynasty alter figure of a sitting deity dating to the 18th or 19th century. Carved wooden figure with a paper and thin plaster covering, painted with coloured pigments, some of the covering in now missing revealing the wood below, as is usually the case with this type of Chinese figures. Nice colours and patina. He has a relic chamber in the back which appears to have not been opened. Together with the similar figure above, make a fantastic display pair.
Good condition, no restoration, slight crack in the wood down the back of head.

Sung Dynasty mercury jars

SUNG DYNASTY MERCURY JARS x2. 13th Century

A pair of ceramic mercury jars. Conical form with wide apex pierced with a small centralised circular opening, tapering to a flat base. Guaranteed, 13th Century - Sung Dynasty, China. Originally used to hold mercury, used in the extraction of gold from ore. Good condition with nice marine encrusted surface patina, These jars were brought up from a ship wreck on sea bed off the coast of China, one has a small sea shell inside, having grown inside the jar and now too large to exit.
Height: 5.5" high (20cm) and (19cm) high. Weight: 1kg.
Both jars are in excellent condition and mounted on custom made welded metal stands in black, included.

TIBETAN – LARGE PRAYER WHEEL

A beautiful old prayer wheel with Tibetan script around the circumference and lotus petal design on top and bottom. Inside still contains the original hand printed Tibetan prayer scroll (unopened). Copper alloy & silver, 19th Century. Prayer wheels are still used by pilgrims in the belief that to spin the wheel in a clockwise direction would release the prayers held within. Therefore giving the user merit in this life towards his or her next reincarnation to a higher form in the next life.
Excellent condition – complete no losses or repairs
